RKS had the pleasure for the sixth time of hosting a workshop for the top design students from CSULB. The relationship with began soon after Predictable Magic was published in 2010 when RKS founder, Ravi Sawhney appeared at a lecture series. Speaking on the experience of hosting workshops, Ravi said that, “Working with the brilliant minds that are the future of design, inspires us all. And, P/A teaches them how to insight, synthesize, plan, innovate, and execute.” RKS has collaborated with CSULB for years, and recently had the pleasure of teaching these students Psycho-Aesthetics, which is the methodology that is implemented on each project at RKS.
RKS Inspires Global Leaders
RKS welcomed a specialized group of global leaders from the SDA Bocconi School of Management in Italy this past week. These leaders were in Los Angeles to take part of the UCLA Anderson School of Management’s International Exchange program. These world class figures were representing 17 different countries, all wanting insight to the specific approach RKS has for each design and innovation. RKS takes great pride in hosting as many groups and individuals as possible in the intriguing world of design.
Design & Innovation is a Team Sport
RKS continues to push the boundaries of innovation, strategy, and design with its newest addition, Carl Fronhofer. Carl is the latest hire to the world class RKS team, taking on the role of Director of Operations. He will contribute to the RKS team and its clients using his unique background in team building and leadership skills.
RKS Designed FloWater Donates Solution to Rescue People of Flint
FloWater, makers of revolutionary and sustainable water Refill Stations, joined the relief efforts in Flint by donating eight units to locations throughout the city. FloWater Refill Stations, designed by world famous RKS, provide chilled, clean, 7x purified drinking water, while allowing users to utilize refillable canteens and bottles to eliminate plastic waste. This donation is the first sustainable, permanent solution of its kind that purifies and transforms tap water, regardless of its source.
A Voice for Innovation & Design
For decades, designers have been waiting and petitioning for a voice within politics. With their ability to use innovation and design thinking to make a huge positive impact and even change the world, designers have long deserved, and needed, a voice to educate policymakers. A voice is needed to fill the void in advocacy on behalf of innovation and technology. RKS CEO & Founder, Ravi Sawhney, accepted an invitation to be a member of TechNet, an exclusive advocacy group of CEOs and senior executives from 70 of America’s iconic innovation companies. RKS Wins Silver Edison Award
The Edison Awards, celebrating 29 years of honoring the best in innovation and excellence in the development of new products and services, announced today that LoanGifting, an RKS incubation, was voted a Silver Winner for innovation at the April 21st event at The Capitale in New York City. Ravi Sawhney, RKS CEO & Founder joined hundreds of senior executives from some of the world’s most recognized companies to acknowledge the hard work and commitment of all of the 2016 Edison Award winners.
RKS Sessions Featuring Sonos
We hosted a captivating Spring RKS Session featuring guest speakers, Sonos Vice President of Design, Tad Toulis, and Senior UX Designer, Chris Bierbower. Their presentation and discussion was a huge success as new and experienced designers alike were given an inside look and new perspective on the creation of theSonos PLAY:5 smart speaker.
CSULB Lecture Series: Inspiring New Designers
RKS Chief Design & Innovation Officer, Scott Clear, had the honor of guest speaking at the Duncan Anderson Design Lecture Series at Cal State University Long Beach. The discussion titled “Unexpected Innovation Through Design Leadership” outlined how designers can positively interact with large corporations. A series of real life case studies showed how RKS designers have brought innovation to new markets that corporate partners did not even know or believe were possible. Involvement from design brings a new perspective that opens up new doors to huge opportunities. This unique approach shows that greater innovation can be achieved by the application of design.
Start-Up Kids: Encouraging Entrepreneurship from a Young Age
RKS led a workshop at Westlake Elementary School as a part of the Start-Up Kids enrichment program encouraging students to develop entrepreneurial mindsets. Cal Lutheran University Dean and long time RKS friend, Dr. Gerhard Apfelthaler, initiated this program fulfilling its mission that it is never too early to inspire. Stimulating independent thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills is vital at an elementary level as minds are best formed at a young age.
Giving Back to the Community: RKS Psycho-Aesthetic Workshops
RKS has had the incredible opportunity of hosting collaborative workshops for some of the top design programs and universities in California. Make in LA, Cal State University Long Beach, and Cal Lutheran University have all participated in recent RKS workshops, growing their design experience from the classroom to reality to ultimately focus their programs to be as directed and successful as possible. RKS has consistently offered workshops for several decades to involve as many groups and individuals as possible in the intriguing world of design.
RKS Continues to Expand Its World Class Team with Key Hire: Mike Elam
RKS has acquired its latest strategic hire as the firm continues to excel in innovation, strategy, and design. Mike Elam, the newest addition to the world class RKS team, takes on the role of Director of Product Development. This position encompasses innovation, interaction, design, design for manufacturing and prototyping in conjunction with external resources and vendors and the in house team of RKS experts.
