Creating an Alternative to Endangered Woods

Determined to advance the state of professional guitars while protecting the environment, the team sought out to create best in class performing guitars with all the beauty and art that musicians covet. Approximately 18 million acres of forest are lost each year due to deforestation. 55% of all the trash people produce sits in landfills, harming our ecosystems. The innovation and design team accepted the challenge to forge a new path, creating a completely new sustainable medium.

Overcoming Industry Obstacles

We were looking to remake the original RKS guitars using a higher performance medium to increase all of the benefits that come from tone woods, had they not become endangered, without compromising tone, balance, acoustics, and playability. Our goal was to pioneer an uncompromised material made from organic plant fibers to recreate the acoustic capabilities of wood supplemented with composite materials for increased sustainability. The remastered guitars would promote an alternative to the excessive use of irreplaceable natural resources that are widely used while advancing the state of the art. After several material corporations said that creating this new medium wasn’t possible, we had to take a different route.  We partnered with three companies to make the impossible possible. Weyerhaeuser and Eastman to provide the key ingredients made from natural resources and Rotuba to take the key ingredients and compound them together based on our formula.
